India Golden Triangle: Taj Mahal, Jaipur, Tiger Safari

India's famed "Golden Triangle" is a popular tourist destination. It includes Delhi, Agra (site of the Taj Mahal), and the "pink city" of Jaipur. Travelers can explore the heritage monuments of Delhi, visit the Taj Mahal, and see the city palace complex of Jaipur (which  houses several museum collections of textiles and art). The journey then continues to Ranthambhore National Park which is well known as a great destination to see wild tigers!

Day 1: Welcome to Delhi, India!

You will be picked up from the airport and brought to your hotel. Depending on the time of your arrival, you will have free time today to explore the area around your hotel at leisure, or relax and get caught up on sleep after your journey to India.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing tour

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast at leisure at your hotel.  Your guide will take you on a sightseeing tour that visits several world-renowned heritage monuments in the Old City such as the Red Fort and Jama Masjid.

 

The Red Fort was the residence of the Mughal emperor of India for nearly 200 years, until 1857. It is located in the middle of Delhi and houses a number of museums.


Jama Masjid: The Masjid-i Jahān-Numā, commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is the largest mosque in India. It stands 40 meters tall. Enjoy a beautiful view of the city of Delhi from the minarets of this last architectural project of Shah Jahan.

 

You will then have a break for lunch, followed by a visit to the Swaminarayan Akshardham Hindu temple, a magnificent example of modern architecture paying tribute to traditional  construction. This massive complex was opened in 2005. There is an oppotunity to go on a boat ride, and to see a lights show after dark.

Day 3: Full day Delhi sightseeing

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, visit the Lotus Temple (Bahai Temple) near Nehru Place (Lotus Temple), Qutab Minar (a 75 meter tall free-standing minaret), and the tomb of emperor Humayun which dates from the mid-1500's. You will also see and Dilli Haat which is an open air market featuring crafts from all around India.

 

In the late afternoon, visit the Railway Museum, Sulabh Toilet Museum (with artifacts dating from as early as 2500 BC), Rajghat (memorial to Mahatma Gandhi), and more.


*** Please note that most of the sightseeing places are closed on Monday and the sites are open until 6:00 pm only.

 

Day 4: Delhi sightseeing

Today, your tour will visit Swaminarayan Akshardam Temple. This huge temple complex began construction in 2000 and opened to the public in 2005. It pays homage in its ornate appearance to many of the great temples from India's past. Come and be amazed at this vast complex and spend the day exploring and learning about this important part of India's modern heritage, take a boat ride while here, and more.

Day 5: Travel from Delhi to Agra

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, you will enjoy a leisurely ride to Agra, which is approximately 4.5 hours from Delhi. Agra is home of the Taj Mahal, one of the original Seven Wonders of the World.

 

Along the way,  visit Sikandra, tomb of emperor Akbar the Great and completed in 1613.  You will have the rest of the day to enjoy at leisure.

Day 6: Taj Mahal and more

Meals: Breakfast

After an early breakfast, visit the Taj Mahal, one of the original seven wonders of the world and Agra's most famous monument (which is a tomb built for Shah Jahan's favorite wife). Early morning is the ideal time to visit.

 

After this, you will see Agra Fort, a Unesco World Heritage site. This fort is actually a walled city and was constructed of red stone in the 1500's. The tour then proceeds to Jama Masjid of Agra which was built in 1648 and contains intricate architecture. The tour will conclude at Buland Darwaza, the "Gate of Magnificence", built by emperor Akbar the Great in 1576 in celebration of his victory over Gujarat.


 

Day 7: Agra to Ranthambhore

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

After breakfast, the day begins with a drive to Ranthambhore via Fatehpur Sikri (a town which was built by emperor Akbar the Great and which incorporates both Hindu and Muslim architectural styles of the 1500's).  

 

Upon arrival at Ranthambhore, you will check in at the hotel and have time to relax. In the evening, visit the ruins at Ranthambhore Fort (constructed in 944AD) which contains palaces, lakes and more.

 

Ranthambhore Fort - Ranthabmore Fort is the most visited places in the Ranthambhore park. You can find here historical palaces, well known temples, fort, and beautiful lakes.

Days 8 & 9: Tiger viewing safari

You will go on morning and afternoon game drives in search of the famous tigers that still live in this part of India. Tigers and other animals are most active during the morning and evening hours, which is why we search for them then.

Day 10: Ranthambhore to Jaipur

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Enjoy one final morning game drive. After breakfast, the journey continues to Jaipur, the Pink City.

 

You will have free time in the afternoon to see the city on your own. In the evening, enjoy an authentic dinner.

Day 11: Jaipur

After breakfast, there will be a tour incorporating some of the most famous must-see places in the Jaipur area. The order in which you visit these places may vary a bit from this description. All will be seen this day:

 

Amer Fort  is also known as the Amber Fort. It contains a blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture and overlooks Maota Lake, perched in the hills. 

 

Hawa Mahal is a palace in Jaipur that was built for the women of the palace to have a view of the city streets without being observed by those in the streets.

 

Jal Mahal is a palace located in the middle of the Man Sagar Lake. It is also known as the Water Palace.

 

The City Palace is a complex that contains many buildings.

 

Jantar Mantar Observatory contains nineteen architectural astronomical instruments and it was completed in the 1700's.

 

The Anokhi Textile Museum gives an overview of the textile industry in India, from ancient to modern times.

 

The Albert Museum, built in the late 1800's, contains jewelry, pottery, weaponry, textiles, musical instruments, and more.

Day 12: Depart Jaipur

Meal: Breakfast

After breakfast, you will be transported to the airport for your onward flight. We hope you loved your time in India!
