Kruger National Park and private game reserves

This experience will combine the beauty and nature of Kruger National Park with a more upscale experience at a private game reserve. In many of the game reserves, animals get even closer to people than they do at the national parks. Treat yourself to a little taste of luxury!

In Kruger National Park, you will stay in Chalet accommodations. In the private game reserve, you will stay in luxury accommodations. Which lodge we use will depend upon availability.

Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park

Accommodations: Chalet

Meals: Dinner

You will be picked up in Johannesburg between 6:30 - 8:00AM and begin the journey to the Skukuza Camp Site at Kruger National Park. We will stop for lunch along the way (at your own expense). After reaching the park in the afternoon, you will have ample time to settle in, walk around the camp site, and explore the shop on site. We will take our first game drive this afternoon in an open air vehicle for 3-4 hours. Weather permitting, we will enjoy dinner outdoors, discussing today's experience with our group. Wine is included with dinner, and additional beverages may be purchased at the gift shop.

All full days at Kruger National Park

Accommodations: Chalet

Meals: Morning snack, Brunch, Dinner

Note: If you opt for the 4 day package that spends more time at the Private Game Reserve, you will not have a full day like this at Kruger.

Get up early for the first game drive of the day. You will be given a light snack of tea or coffee and rusks (dried bread) to dunk into your beverage. This will be followed by the game drive which will last 3-4 hours. All game drives use specially adapted 4x4 vehicles that are essentially open air, giving all guests the best possible view, no matter the seat.

Upon returning to the camp site, a large brunch will be served. After this, you will have time to relax and do as you please. There will be opportunities to visit the Stevenson-Hamilton Memorial Library, swim in the pool, browse the park's shop, walk around the camp, watch for many of the birds that make their home here, and enjoy peaceful views of the river from the restaurant.

The afternoon game drive will again last for several hours, giving you more opportunity to see amazing wildlife.

Dinner will again be served al fresco, weather permitting. You will have the chance to relax, unwind, and compare notes with your fellow travelers.

Kruger National Park to private game reserve

Accommodations: Luxury (private game reserve)

Meals: Morning snack, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Start the day with an early morning wake up, and enjoy coffee or tea with rusks (dried bread to dunk into your beverage). The game drive will last for about 3 hours and breakfast will be served upon return to the camp site.

Next, travel via air conditioned, enclosed vehicle to the nearby private game reserve that is adjacent to Kruger. There will be time to enjoy lunch and freshen up before departing for the afternoon game drive.

The afternoon game drive will be in an open-air vehicle and will last about 4 hours, extending into dusk. Often, even the predators allow humans to get very close, making this one of the highlights of staying at a private reserve.

Dinner will again be served al fresco, weather permitting. You will have the chance to relax, unwind, and compare notes with your fellow travelers.

All full days at the private game reserve

Accommodations: Luxury (private game reserve)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Note: If you opt for the 4 day package that spends more time at Kruger National Park, you will not have a full day like this at the private game reserve.

The private game reserves offer an advantage over other parks: the animals are usually more habituated to humans, meaning that you will get to see them at a closer distance than usual! Most lodges also offer morning breakfast game walks, which you are free to join. The rest of the morning is spent at leisure, enjoying the surroundings or the pool. Lunch is served around 2PM. The afternoon game drive will extend into the evening, allowing you to perhaps see some of the nocturnal animals of the region.

Dinner will again be served al fresco, weather permitting. You will have the chance to relax, unwind, and compare notes with your fellow travelers.

Return to Johannesburg via the Panorama Route

Meals: Breakfast

Another early morning wake up will ensure that we again see as many animals as possible on the morning drive. Breakfast will be served upon returning to the lodge. Then, we will slowly journey back to Johannesburg, traveling along some scenic countryside.

Along the way, visit several attractions that are part of the Panorama Route, including Blyde River Canyon (third largest canyon in the world) which includes the scenic points of the Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God's Window, a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Lowveld from the escarpment.

There will be a break for lunch, at your own expense. Because the journey back to Johannesburg will take at least 6 hours, you are strongly advised to spend the night in Johannesburg before going onto your next destination. If you must travel on the same day, we recommend not scheduling domestic flights any earlier than 7:00PM, and international flights not earlier than 8:00PM.
